Research activity:
He carried out research work on lunar sample from Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 mission.
He is author of more than 120 papers concerning topics related to the High Temperature Chemistry, High Temperature Mass Spectrometry, Advanced Ceramics and High Temperature Solar Energy.
He delivered lectures in a number of foreign Universities and scientific institutions in USA, England, Germany, France, USSR, Japan etc. and has been consulting with EURATOM on problems related to the nuclear reactor safety.
He is also Director of the "Centro di Studio per la Termodinamica Chimica alle Alte Temperature" of CNR and has been one of the founder of the new "Università degli Studi della Basilicata", in which has also been Chairman of the Faculty of Science.
In 2001 year, in recognition of the world wide reputation achieved in the field, he has been elected member of the Space Colonization Technical Committee (SCTC) of the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). In the same year he was awarded by the President of Italian Republic with the gold medal of “Benemerito della Scienza e della Cultura”.
