Laboratory of radical and electron transfer processes
The research activity of this lab is focused on the study of radical and electron transfer processes and in particular on the study of the properties and reactivity of radical and radical ions and the investigation on their role on chemical, enzymatic and biomimetic oxidations. Several aspects concerning the structure and reactivity of oxygen centered radicals (aminoxyl and alkoxyl radicals) and of radical cations of alkylaromatic compounds, aromatic amines, sulfides and sulfoxides are investigated in the lab. A special attention is devoted to the analysis of the role played by these reactive species in oxidative processes promoted by chemical, enzymatic and biomimetic systems (metalloporphyrins and nonheme iron complexes as models of natural heme and nonheme oxygenases).
