Essential oils are natural compounds that are used for multiple applications in the biomedical field but have criticalities that limit their use such as poor water solubility and non-negligible cytotoxicity. The aim of this study, therefore, is to synthesize new water-soluble derivatives, polymeric or nanostructured, covalently linked to essential oils on which to perform biological tests. As far as polymers are concerned, we are currently working on hyaluronic acid and as far as nanostructured systems are concerned, we are using Carbon Dots.
